“Not since Rumi have we heard the voice of a poet so in love with the Divine. Jasmin Lee Cori arouses our hunger for the true beloved: that place in every soul that opens into the Mystery, embracing the holy. Freefall to the Beloved belongs on the bed stand of every contemplative and poetry lover serious in the quest.”
-Richard S. Shane, PhD
“In these poems the heart’s music catches us, calls us, seduces us with the wonder and beauty of what is real. Spirit and body merge, reminding us of the wonder that is our true self. These are poems that catch the hidden light and part the veils between the worlds.”
-Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, author of Sufism: The Transformation of the Heart
Mirror of the Heart
The mirror beholds
But does not cling
Reflects, but does not change
To behold the face of God
The heart must become like a mirror
For only the empty can receive the whole
And only the whole and unbroken
Can reflect the fine presence
Of the underlying Void
Give up self!
It is nothing but crumbs
The consolation for having lost
That which no effort can regain
Give it all up
Keeping only one thing:
The capacity to give oneself over
To be filled by something greater
The mirror of the heart now radiant
With the face of the Beloved
Holy Presence
Deep within my heart
Where only faith can go
Lies a sacred chamber
The sanctum of my soul
It is the holy of holies
The place where the presence of God
Is so absolute, so shattering
No Other can remain
Here, I am stripped bare
All falsity and unworthiness burned away
By this scorching light
No darkness can withstand
Shorn of self
The distinctions I’s can see
All that remains is the holy presence
The divine outpouring of itself
The true communion
Is not between a beggarly soul and God
But Truth with Truth
Light with Light
The meeting of the Real
In what looked like two parts
Now found to be one sacred being
Whose presence is everywhere
The Beloved Comes
The Beloved comes
When the night has grown still
And all other loves have departed
I must not search with my eyes
But rather feel with my body
My heart the most sensitive
To the divine caress
I wait for a touch so light
It would go unnoticed
Yet placing no barrier
I feel and absorb it completely
Turning ever-so-slightly
Into our union
We melt
One great Sea of Being
No longer separate
I am one with All
Afterwards, I sleep
My beloved slipping quietly away
I awaken to find myself deserted
The emptiness stark and horrifying
Until I remember
Night will come again
